History

River Valley Eye Professionals traces its roots back to the 1920s and Dr. Dewey Amundsen. The clinic was located on the corner of Second and Washington streets in Northfield. The practice was later purchased by Dr. Robert Moore who relocated to the lower level of 710 Division Street, which was also home to the Northfield Medical Clinic and Dr. Paul Rue, a dentist.

Dr. Patrick O’Neill purchased the practice from Dr. Moore in 1983. In 1994, O’Neill and his practice joined the Allina Medical Group and moved the clinic to the main floor of 710 Division when the medical clinic moved to its present location on Jefferson Road.

The current facility was constructed in 2004 and housed River Valley Vision Centers, an independent group practice, and Northfield Optical and Contact Lens.

In early 2012, River Valley Vision Centers changed its name to River Valley Eye Professionals. Northfield Optical and Contact Lens was renamed River Valley Optical in late 2012.

The practice of eye care has changed and improved considerably from those early days, but we have always prided ourselves on keeping up with the new innovations and changing times. Our commitment is to our patients’ comfort and needs. Our doctors and staff realize you have many choices in eye care, and our goal is to ensure you have confidence that you’ve made the right choice.
