Patrick W. O’Neill, OD, FAAO
Dr. O’Neill started his private practice in Northfield in 1983. He joined the Allina Medical Group in 1992, and in 2004, started River Valley Vision Centers, which became River Valley Eye Professionals in 2012. Dr. O’Neill received his degree from the Michigan College of Optometry and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). His clinical specialty is ocular disease, including glaucoma. He is past president of the Minnesota Optometric Association and the North Central States Optometric Council as well as the Northfield Rotary Club. He is an instructor in self-defense and holds a black belt in Taekwondo. Dr. O’Neill enjoys skiing and sailing.
Nathan P. Heilman, OD
Dr. Heilman received his degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. While he enjoys all facets of eye care, Dr. Heilman is particularly interested in the management of eye diseases like dry eye and glaucoma. In addition, he enjoys the fitting of specialty contact lenses. Prior to joining River Valley Eye Professionals, Dr. Heilman practiced in Northampton, Massachusetts. He also served our country proudly as an officer in the United States Navy. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and Minnesota Optometric Association. In his free time, Dr. Heilman enjoys spending time with his family, the occasional round of golf and regular workouts at the gym.
Kevin W. Cassin, OD
Dr. Cassin received his degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois where he served as Class President. As an optometry student, he pursued his passion for volunteering and providing eye care to those less fortunate on a mission trip to Morocco. While he enjoys all aspects of optometry, Dr. Cassin is particularly interested in the treatment and management of ocular disease and fitting contact lenses. He completed a residency in ocular disease from the Huntington VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia where he gained valuable experience in the treatment and management of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Following residency, he practiced at a private medical optometry practice in New Ulm, MN for two years before moving back home to the south metro. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Minnesota Optometric Association. Dr. Cassin enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, running, and cooking.
Kimberly P. Laan, OD, FAAO
Dr. Laan specializes in pediatric eye care as well as the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. She earned her doctor of optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry (UABSO), where she gained special experience in the management of amblyopia (lazy eye), vision therapy, pediatric eye disease and low vision. She also worked frequently with special needs children, including those with autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Laan is an active member of the American Academy of Optometry, the Minnesota Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. When out of the office, Dr. Laan enjoys cooking, running, traveling and spending time with her family.
Michelle J. Muench, MD
Northfield Eye Physicians and Surgeons (a division of Northfield Hospital)
Dr. Muench is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed her residency at the University of Texas-Southwestern. Dr. Muench is a native of Northfield; she is a graduate of Northfield High School and earned her undergraduate degree at Gustavus Adolphus College. Her eye practice includes cataract and lens implant surgery as well as eyelid surgery.
